Comalapa Airport (SAL) is the primary airport of the Central American State of El Salvador, and is the third busiest airport in Central America. The airport is located near Comalapa, on the central Pacific Coast of El Tamarindo, La Union and less than 50 km from the capital city of San Salvador. With two runways and yearly about 2.1 million passengers, Comalapa is served by a number of international Airlines offering direct and connecting flights to Central, South and North American cities.

Project Description

Funded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). As part of the project team to provide a master plan update to meet the capacity demand until the year 2030. Project services included the preparation of a facility conditions assessment, terminal space program, traffic forecast, financial analysis, environmental analysis and preliminary architectural design services for the development of the passenger terminal and cargo facility.

  • Site inventory and passenger processing assessment
  • Conducted airport stakeholder meetings and interviews
  • Prepared demand capacity analysis
  • Preparation of terminal space program and facility requirements for the new passenger terminal and proposed cargo terminal
  • Prepared an Ultimate Development Plan
  • Preparation of complete architectural preliminary design documents for the passenger terminal and cargo terminal facilities
