San Juan Airport, known officially known as San Juan Luis Munoz Marin International Airport is located in Carolina, 3 miles southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is the busiest airport in the Caribbean region by passenger traffic. Over 4 million board a plane at the airport per year according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Project Description

New Domestic Terminal Passenger Directional Signage System & Exterior Landscaping Design

The Puerto Rico Ports Authority is currently undertaking the development of a new passenger terminal at Luis Munõz Marin International Airport. The new terminal is an extension of the existing terminal and will cater solely to domestic passengers and passengers disembarking / embarking from the marine cruise port. The new terminal facility is comprised of 5 additional contact gates, check-in facility, departure lounge areas with upgraded retail area and comprises an area in excess of 20,000 m2.

Design services were rendered for the preparation of complete landscape design documents for all exterior areas for the new passenger terminal including taxi waiting area, curbside roadway and terminal access roadway and service roads.

Services Rendered

  • On-site assessment and analysis of existing airport facilities and signage components.
  • Preparation of complete design concepts for all primary, secondary and tertiary signage components within the passenger terminal area.
  • Complete location plans outlining the specific location for all signage elements.
  • Preparation of signage schedules depicting graphic illustration, mounting method and textual information (Spanish and English) for each signage element.
  • Preparation of complete technical specifications.
  • Completion of construction details for all signage components.
  • Onsite analysis and assessment of existing airport facilities and planting material.
  • Preparation of final design documents for the complete exterior landscape package including preparation of technical specifications and construction details.
  • Preparation of hardscape final design documents, landscape pallet and cost estimates.
