Punta Cana International Airport is a privately owned commercial airport in Punta Cana, eastern Dominican Republic. The airport is built in a traditional Dominican style with open-air terminals with their roofs covered in palm fronds. Grupo PuntaCana built the airport, which was designed by architect Oscar Imbert, and inaugurated it in December 1983. It became the first privately owned international airport in the world. A number of scheduled and charter airlines fly to Punta Cana; more than 6.3 million passengers (arrivals and departures combined) pass through the terminals, moved by almost 60,000 commercial aircraft operations.

Project Description

JWG was contracted to prepare design documents for the aircraft parking configuration and passenger boarding bridges (PBB) with complete 400-Hz and Pre-conditioned Air (PCA) equipment for the new Terminal B development.

Services Rendered

  • On-site assessment and analysis of existing airport facilities.
  • Determination of demand-capacity and aircraft fleet mix.
  • Preparation of three (3) aircraft parking configurations
  • Development of complete design documents for the preferred aircraft parking option including apron aircraft parking layout plan, apron flood lighting, apron markings and cost estimates.
  • Preparation of aircraft parking and PBB simulations illustrating aircraft movements, clearances, jet-blast and passenger boarding bridge extensions, retractions and maneuverability.
  • Procurement management for PBB, 400-Hz and PCA equipment including preparation of specifications, Request for Qualifications, Request for Proposals, tender management, evaluation of responses, vendor interviews, contract negotiations and tender award.
