Project New Airport Project / IT Master Plan

Strategic/Operational, Technology Planning

JWG personnel were responsible for design and implementation oversight of the communications infrastructure including all cabling and the local area network as well as other IT related systems during the original design and construction of the Airport.

Project Description

ITMP and Shared Use Implementation

The JW Group (JWG) led and managed a team of consultants for the development of an Information Technology Master Plan (ITMP) for the City of Austin – Department of Aviation (DoA). The plan developed both the business and technical requirements for a number of systems, applications, and business processes identified by the DoA. The ITMP focused on the short term, medium term, and long term requirements of the DoA while analyzing IT initiatives that considered the latest industry technology trends.

The plan developed recommended projects for a five year and beyond planning horizon. The recommended projects included rough order of magnitude costs, anticipated durations, and project dependencies. All recommended projects were then reviewed in a holistic approach to develop a prioritized list of projects and an overall implementation schedule that aligned with the DoA Capital Improvement Plan budgeting process.

As part of the project JWG evaluated the feasibility of a Shared Use Implementation at ABIA. The goal was to provide the DoA with alternate technical approaches to supporting multiple airlines at shared positions (gates and ticket counters) as well as a recommended implementation strategy that would streamline the implementation process. Initially, the more robust and fully integrated (long term) shared use implementation was determined to be not feasible to be completed within the defined time constraints. However, an approach was developed to implement the shared use system in phases, with the initial phase providing the support for the short term needs of the airport. This phase was fast tracked and provided the base shared use implementation that lays the ground work for future phases.

New Airport Project

JWG personnel were responsible for design and implementation oversight of the communications infrastructure including all cabling and the local area network as well as other IT related systems. Activities included development of construction drawings and specifications for the communications infrastructure, field verification of all installed components, testing oversight, and formal acceptance procedures.

Project Management Information System (PMIS)

As part of an IT Master Plan JWG staff members are evaluating the current configuration of the Airport’s property, lease, and revenue management systems as well as the City of Austin’s financial reporting requirements. Recommendations and an overall integration / interface strategy will be developed: $35,000.
